You don’t normally see a pub filled with sausage dogs on a Six Nations Saturday in Cardiff
Dozens of dachshunds gathered in Cardiff city centre on Saturday at a puppy get-together. The event, held at Brewhouse and Kitchen, had photo opportunities for puppies, awards for the best-dressed sausage, puppuccinos and treats for dogs, as well as toys and ball pits and there were also local dog businesses trading.
Pup Up Café was set up in 2018 by Marcus Ackford and they now host different events across the country for dachshunds and other breeds. During their time in Cardiff they hosted two sessions with one for dachshunds and another for all other friendly dogs.
Marcus said: “I spent years in the events industry to discover there weren’t any fun events offerings for dogs between a walk in the park and Crufts so I decided to start the Pup Up Café. After running nightlife events the switch from hosting teenagers to dogs wasn’t too much of a change. As long as neither fall down the stairs it tends to be great fun.”
Marcus’ events always draw a crowd and since he first came to Cardiff in 2018 the company have hosted more than 1,500 sausage dogs in the capital. “We find the type of dogs that come along to our events are all very sociable, friendly, and love to play with other dogs and humans alike. They’re very sleepy after their session is up and tend to skip lunch after plenty of treats and socialisation,” he added.
